The Back and Neck Care Center
WE OPTIMIZE HEALTH AND FITNESS IN AN EFFICIENT MANNER.

The Back and Neck Care Center, a chiropractic and rehabilitation staple in the Pittsburgh area for over 25 years, is proud to present a their unique “Treat & Train” philosophy with the Aligned Training Program!

The Aligned Training Program combines all the benefits of chiropractic treatment and functional strength training to produce a healthy body and optimal performance.

  • Proper Technique: Proper exercise technique can be attained efficiently by removing joint restrictions and providing clients with normal joint function.
  • Full Range of Motion Exercises: Improved joint function allows clients to move through a full range of motion, strengthening the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in all movement patterns.
  • Multi-Joint, Multi-Direction Movements: Our bodies do not move one joint at a time or in one direction, why would you train like that?  The ability to produce force during complex movements is readily obtained by treating physical imbalances and strengthening weakness.
  • Rehabilitation and Injury Reduction: Our facility provides each client a unique program to reduce injury occurrence by treating specific biomechanical issues (alignment, posture, joint integrity), as well as training to improve strength, stability, and coordination, all which have been shown to decrease the likelihood of injuries.

However you define yourself: “athlete”, “weekend warrior”, or “mom”, the Aligned Training Program can help you achieve any of your health and fitness goals.

You are invited to visit our facility and begin your Aligned process with a FREE Biomechanical Exam.  The exam includes a digital foot scan, a biomechanical assessment with Dr. Tarnow, and a body movement assessment with one of our nationally certified coaches.

All of our Aligned Training Programs have been developed to improve balance and coordination, increase strength and power development, and burn the most calories in the least amount of time. Our programs are about building the most efficient body in the most efficient manner.

Bobby George, MS, CSCS, USAW

Pittsburgh Chiropractor, Dr. Gregory Tarnow introducing Coach Bobby George, MS, CSCS, USAW

Bobby comes to the Back and Neck Care Center and Aligned Training after having spent a year as a strength coach in Wexford, Pa. His focus was on developing strength through proper technique and free weight training workouts for a wide range of clients with varying age, fitness levels, and abilities.

Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, Coach George earned his Master’s degree in Applied Physiology from Salisbury University. While at Salisbury, he worked as a strength and conditioning coach for the Seagulls and trained multiple All-American athletes, as well as the men’s lacrosse national champion and women’s national runner-up field hockey teams.
Coach George also had the opportunity to work with Division I student-athletes at Western Carolina University.

“I have had the opportunity to work with all types of athletes and clients. From Division I athletes to great grandmothers, every person I work with I try to find what drives them to want to improve. For my athletes it might be the increased performance they can gain in their sport and for my general population clients it might be as simple as staying up with their children or grandchildren at the park. Every person we get through our doors can improve their performance and quality of life. Those improvements are what I help my clients accomplish every day.”

A native of Watsonville, Ca, Bobby was recruited to play football at Denison University in Granville, Oh. It was here that his passion for fitness and sport performance began under the guidance of strength coach Mark Watts. Bobby earned his BA in physical education and began his professional career as a coach at Pajaro Valley High School and Ceiba Prep Middle School (Watsonville, Ca) before moving on to work at St. Mary’s High School (Colorado Springs, Co).

Coach George is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified sport performance coach with USA Weightlifting. He has been a competitive athlete in the sport of powerlifting and enjoys pushing his self each time he is in the gym.

He lives in Bellevue with his fiancé, Mary Beth, a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

Coach Lea Roth, BS, CSCS

Pittsburgh Chiropractor, Dr. Gregory Tarnow introducing Coach Lea Roth, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) who specializes in training female athletes and Back and Neck Care Center Performance TrainingCoach Roth is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) who specializes in training female athletes. She worked as a personal trainer at Club Julian in the North Hills, developing both short and long term exercise prescriptions for clients and weekly workouts for regular clients. Lea has coached youth sports camps at the YMCA as well as fitness and P.E. for children and teenagers. “I’ve always loved sports and have continued to cultivate my growing passion for strength and fitness. One of the things I love most about coaching is watching players improve and develop in their sport, and loving the process.” As the head coach of a high school girls’ basketball team, she has learned how to push female athletes to reach their individual potential. She has a unique relationship with her team, helping them progress their skills and develop as strong, confident athletes while enabling them to enjoy the process.

“Female athletes are different. They have concerns that never even cross the minds of male athletes. Body image is a big deal for most girls, and I want to help them perform to their potential while becoming confident about their performance, how they look, and how they feel. Many girls are extremely social too; sacrificing their free time to workout can be a challenge. I know kids in today’s society have a lot going on — I work hard to make their time spent here worthwhile and productive,” says Roth.

Her systematic approach to training starts with an evaluation of each specific athlete to determine his/her weaknesses and imbalances. Female athletes are six to eight times more likely to injure/tear their ACL, something in the forefront of Lea’s mind while training females. She is not just about making athletes look like they are strong; she firmly believes in the importance of starting with each individual athlete’s needs even if it seems elementary. “I believe having a healthy, strong, balanced athlete means you must start with getting their body moving right before adding loads of weight. There’s so much more to a fast, powerful athlete than throwing around crazy weight in the gym. Here at the DRIVEN we want our athletes to be safe as well as strong, and this is why we pay close attention to injury reduction measures, specifically for the ACL.”

Lea’s passion for sports began as a young child and continued to develop through her personal participation in athletics. In high school she was part of the basketball team and also ran track for Slippery Rock High School. She studied for 2 years at Butler County Community College while starting for their women’s basketball team. After transferring to Cedarville University in Ohio, Lea completed her degree in Exercise Science. While studying at Cedarville Lea assisted in the strength and conditioning of athletes and sports teams at nearby Dayton University, working under their head strength and conditioning coach with teams including football, women’s track, soccer, and volleyball. Lea also spent time at a physical therapy clinic as well as volunteering her time training senior citizens from the Cedarville community. During her years at Cedarville, Lea continued her love of basketball by competing for the women’s club team.
